Therapeutic Recreational Activities for Residents
The purpose of having the therapeutic recreational activities for residents at Pleasant Ridge Manor is to improve the quality of life for each resident. Our department, under the direction of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, works closely with other in-house therapies to augment their treatment strategies using fun and recreation.
We provide a therapeutic recreational program of activities from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. every single day! Our Activity Aides are an integral part of our treatment team and develop a detailed plan of care for each individual. Our calendar of daily events exceeds the typical requirements and includes a number of different options.

Exercises, Games & Technology
- Our iN2L computers have a wealth of great, ability-appropriate exercise programs including yoga, Sittercize, and Tai Chi. Exercise is more fun when you have great music and a great time! Exercises, games & current events occur simultaneously every AM on each of our 6 units. Sony Wii machines are also available to use for fun & exercise.
- Our Activities Aides, with help from area church & community social groups, help facilitate our weekly bingo games.
- We have a dedicated wireless network available for our guests; many find visiting the Friends' Cafe a relaxing place to visit and share family photos & videos on their personal devices.
Arts, Crafts, Cooking & Baking
Our residents truly enjoy talking about their favorite recieps and love cooking and baking during our regular cinammon rolls & tea groups. Arts & crafts has become another favorite group activity. All of these activities are done individually or in a group.
Pet Therapy
You can find pets here almost weekly! Local greyhound owners rescue group and several individuals bring their pets in to visit. We even have had a mini horse named Cimmaron come visit, rabbits, goats, horses, cats, birds, and even pet piggies come in to wow our residents and share some love!
We have a large fish aquariums and several birds in our library area for everyone to visit. Residents have the opportunity to visit with their own pets when families bring them in. Families are welcome to bring in their own pets for private visits. Contact our Activities Department for details.
Special Events & Community Outings
- We celebrate all sorts of holidays and invite bands & entertainers to perform on a real stage!
- Shopping trips to local department & dollar stores are near weekly!
- Trips to see our area's greatest natural assets such as the scenic Presque Isle State Park and the beautiful countryside of the West County and North East areas
- Educational trips: Blasco Library, the Tom Ridge Environmental Center; the Maritime and Art Museums, and the Buffalo Farm in Edinboro are highly requested.
- Sporting events: baseball games,bowling at our two local alleys and fishing trips are also among favorite outings.
- Presque Isle Downs and Casino
- Waldameer Park, local ice cream shops, picnics at the beach, local restaurants, and luncheon outings are highly requested.
Musical & Religious Activities
We're happy to make reasonable accommodations for all religions and always encourage Residents to practice their religion of choice or receive visits from their parish ministers/priests.
- Musical activities comprise a large portion of our Activity Program both in large group and individual settings
- Lovely chapel located in the center of the facility; accommodates both Catholic and Protestant services on a weekly basis.
- Rosary groups and Bible Study groups are held weekly. Holy days and other celebrations are recognized and all Residents are welcome to attend.
- Live entertainment on our stage on a weekly basis. These groups, combined with our paid entertainers, provide a fun night "out" several times every week!
